The Aspen Grove area near Merritt is scattered with lakes and trails, making it a perfect place to explore over a winter weekend.
We climbed a trail and came across some freshly fallen trees blocking the road. As luck would have it, I had just bought a chainsaw a week earlier and we had it with us. The trail was cleared in no time!
We settled in at a beautiful lake, unloaded some gear, and went back on the trail to collect and cut some deadfall for firewood.
The soft light of the setting sun made for some spectacular views over the frozen lake!
It wouldn't be a camping trip without delicious food! Pelmeni for breakfast? Why not!
On the way back we harvested a great Christmas tree. Another benefit of getting outside!
